My home region's next move is to survey members about the possibility of
producing its monthly publication electronically. At present the region's
membership is about 3200 members, down from over 5600 at its peak.
By making such a move the publication's production costs would drop
dramatically. Not all the members are hooked up to the Internet.

My Region abandoned Directory in the 90s and Newsletter about 5 or  6 years ago.
I believe this is a major contributing factor to the fact that my region may be 1/2 the size it was a dozen years ago.
If I do not already know someone it is hard to get acquainted.

It happens to be the largest circulation regional publication in SCCA. Its
presence, IMHO, has contributed to the Region's growth to be the largest in
SCCA. When it was sold on newstands it outsold Sports Car on Newstands.
Is it a useful tool to attract new members to SCCA? I think so. That's "why
here."

Some how this doesn't seem like a good conversation for this forum.  Each Region has the right to set up and handle the way they do things.  If Mr. Kelly's Region wants to pay their editor via ad income, fine for them.  If Mr Hirt's Region goes in a different direction, that's ok too.  I have never been part of a Region that had paid staff so I have no way of knowing how they come up with the best way to pay their staff.  The point I would like to make is "why here"?

The region should be paying the printing bill

While I'm not aware of today's financial situation, previously the ad money
went to pay the printing bill.

My home region has recruited a new newsletter editor.
The Region BoD has promised to spend less money on the project.
Previously they required the immediate past editor to share ad income.
Future is unknown on that subject.
