To all SCCA Regions:

Sponsoring Make-A-Wish Foundation速 events.

I am posting this in the REs and Region Leadership section of the forum because what the Las Vegas Region is doing with our local MAW group in regards to our Solo II program is now basically cleared to go by MAW legal in all SCCA regions.

Our region really only does Solo II, but the concept should also be transferrable to SCCA Club Racing and Rally.

I had previously posted in May 2012, in another section of this forum, our intent to start up this program, but those posts dont seem to be available anymore.

We have now sponsored a few MAW events, starting this year, and wanted to bring it to the attention of all the other regions.

Originally, our region was interested in a sponsoring program with a worthwhile non-profit organization that would allow us to give back to the community, and, by co-branding/co-marketing with them, would allow us to hopefully obtain Solo II event sites at preferential rental rates as site cost were getting out of hand with LVMS and other locations.

I approached MAW and after a long gestation period, mostly waiting for their national board of directors and attorneys, we started up in May of this year.

We provide Solo II demonstration rides for MAW Kids, their parent/guardians, and any MAW staffers/volunteers.

All has gone well with the events we have hosted. We originally started out with offering a three run ride for up to three MAW Kids per each of our events, and just recently changed that to three times a year for up to six MAW Kids per event.

The number of actual MAW participants usually comes close to double the number of MAW Kids that are signed up to ride, because of the addition of parents/guardians and MAW staff/volunteers.

Additionally we originally had the MAW demonstration runs at the start of our events, but have since changed them to start at the end of our first round.

All of us in the LVR have very much enjoyed hosting the MAW participants, and they seemed to be very happy with having something else to offer their Kids. FYI: Most MAW events here in Las Vegas are centered around female kids - like fashion shows, etc.

There is a lot more info posted in our forum at this link: LVR SCCA Forum - MAW

Plus, if after reading the info in our forum, you have questions, please feel free to post them in this forum, or, you are also welcome to contact me directly at moiseve at hotmail dot com.
